How is a naturopath different from my normal MD?
Naturopaths and medical doctors have similar educations, we do 8 years of schooling with a focused foundation of science, 4 years of which are spent in medical school learning about medical science, anatomy, pathology, clinical medicine, emergency medicine and diagnostic medicine. Naturopaths differ in they spend more time learning about nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, psychology, traditional chinese medicine, physical medicine and put focus on resolving the underlying cause of dis-ease. Essentially we create healing in the body without the use of drugs or surgery.

What should I expect from my visits?
Your first visit is a very thorough appointment (approx. 90 minutes).  Naturopaths view their patients much like a puzzle, we try to gather as many pieces from the intake form, initial visit, labs, and physical exam to have a detailed idea of the whole picture.  To do so I will ask a series of questions regarding your history, family history, and any current health concerns. In the follow up visit, labs will be reviewed, and your custom treatment plan will be discussed (50 minutes).  Follow visit are used to ensure your protocol and your progress are on track. Periodic maintenance visits are used to monitor progress or adjust treatment for long term health. Finally, optimization visits may be used after your initial complaints have resolved to ensure optimal health.

Will I have to change my diet, and give up all the things I love?
You are what you eat! Naturopaths believe this very much so, and changing your diet can improve your health immensely. However, Dr. Escobedo strongly believes in being realistic and creating health plans that patients can enjoy and maintain long term. Thus, you will work together to tailor a health care plan that fits you and your lifestyle.

What can a Naturopath do for me?
Your naturopaths job is to empower you so you can achieve and maintain your health. Dr. Escobedo will inspire new ideas and methods to help make living a healthy lifestyle easier. She will motivate you on your hike to a healthier you. How long will it take?
One day & a lifetime! Creating health is a lifestyle that you take one day at a time, the first step is to fill out the intake and come in to see me.

How much does it cost?
Prices depend on the type of visit, and your insurance provider. We are a cash based practice and do not accept insurance, but we are happy to give you a superbill with the appropriate codes for insurance reimbursement. Many PPOs will reimburse depending on your plan. An HSA (health savings account) and Flex Spending are also payment options. They will often cover consultations, labs and supplements. HMOs do not reimburse for naturopathic medicine. Most labs are covered by PPO plans. Unfortunately, this is not the case for HMOs. However, we are often able to work with HMO doctors to enable some lab coverage. Please contact us for any further questions about costs.
